Meet Our Team

J. Paul Meyer. MD

Dr. J. Paul Meyer joined the U.S Army in 1968 as a 1st Lieutenant and then transitioned to the Air Force in 1977 as a Captain. In 1976, he became a licensed pharmacist, during this time, he continued his studies to become an Aerospace Medicine Physician in 1985. Then in 1988, he was transferred to Iowa Air National Guard as a State Air Surgeon. During his time as the State Air Surgeon, he passed the American Board Certification of Anesthesiology in 1996 and became a licensed Medical Doctor in the State of Nebraska in 1999. Dr. J. Paul Meyers retired from active duty in 2000.


After retiring from the military, Dr. J. Paul Meyer became the president of Nebraska Anesthesia Providers, LLC and the Director of Anesthesia Services at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, NE, in 1999. He moved on to Locum Tenens Anesthesia Services in 2005, and in 2006 joined Pain Management & Locum Tenens. In 2007, Dr. J. Paul Meyer became credentialed as a Interventional Pain Management Physician and is still active. He also passed the American Board Certification of Pain Medicine in 2013 to further assist his patients in finding alternative solutions to reduce their pain.



Dr. J. Paul Meyer, founder of Heartland Pain Clinic is dedicated to his patients and strives to get them back to regular daily activities-regaining daily life functions and doing what they enjoy most. We take a no-nonsense approach to pain, and his goal is to achieve a sustainable and quality level of care for his patients.

Alyssa Benston, PA-C, is originally from Ayr, NE. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Hastings College and graduated in 2017 with a Masters of Physicians Assistant Studies from Union College in Lincoln, NE. She is the member of the the American Academy Of Physician Assistants and the Nebraska Academy of Physician Assistants. Alyssa has bee with Heartland Pain Clinic since July 2017 and enjoys being apart of the Grand Island facility.
