Conditions We Treat

Cancer-Related Pain

Cancers of any type can be inherently painful. The pain can be caused by tumors rubbing against organs, nerves, or bones. Your pain can also be triggered by the stress your body must endure while under going chemo treatment and radiation therapy. Heartland Pain Clinic can provide nerve block therapies, implanted pain pumps, or trigger point injections to manage your pain.

Degenerative Disc Disease

Most lower back pain caused by degenerative disc disease is often challenging to treat. Degenerative disc disease is a condition in which the discs in your lower back start to wear down and grind against each other. Several factors can cause discs to be degenerate, including age, tears in the outer portion of the disc due to daily activities and sports, and injury. Unlike other body tissues, there is very little blood supply to the disc. Which means once a disc is injured, it cannot repair itself and can start to deteriorate. Our team strives to find the best treatment and therapy options that fit your specific needs to improve your quality of life and reduce your pain.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that affects your daily life with the pains of fatigue, trouble remembering or concentrating, headaches, and muscle pains. Fibromyalgia is related to increased sensitivity to pain signals in the body. Our team has extensive experience in understanding that there are both physical and mental components to the disease. An essential part of improving and maintaining pain and fatigue is pain management, stress management and physical exercise.

Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spine. When the spine space decreases, this, in turn, puts pressure on the nerves passing through the spinal canal. There are a variety of reasons for a person to develop spinal stenosis. In some cases, it is a congenital disorder a person is born with, or a person tends osteoarthritis or has an injury that weakened the spine, making it more susceptible in other circumstances. Most commonly, this is found in the neck and lower back. Most patients have had chronic pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness of the lower or upper extremities.

Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic pain is often described as a shooting or burning pain. Neuropathic pain is unrelenting and severe, and sometimes it comes and goes. It usually is the result of nerve damage or a malfunctioning nervous system. The impact of nerve damage is a change in nerve function both at the site of the injury and areas around it. Neuropathic pain often seems to have no apparent cause. But some common causes of neuropathic pain include diabetes, multiple sclerosis, thyroid issues, spinal compression from herniated discs or arthritis, alcoholism and much more.
